the problem with the learning skills being bumped for new players is this... And it's hard to explain, to bare with me.
those of us that do go through the "Learning Grind" getting all the learning skills to max first, when we ARE finally done, we feel like the game has suddenly jumped.
You then start training all the "fun" skills. YOu start getting more money/LP for missions, you can get bigger ships, better weapons, use more Drones, and so on.
The thing is, without that long period where we do the Learning Grind, we don't know how good it is at the end.
Now, that in itself isnt' the whole reason.
if you just jumped into the game with say Learning skills to lvl 5, people would progress very fast. Within a month they may be saveing up to get a BS.
But it takes time to learn the RL skills to play this game right. I've been in over 2 months now, with about 1.5 mill sp's. I have all Learning skills to 4, one to 5, with it's advanced learning skill to lvl 4. I'm STILL learning things about this game.
The thing is, there are several months, where if we had noobs like me running around in BS's, getting ganked by someone in a Cruiser, becuase I don't know how to set it up right, there would be a lot of complaining from people for several months.
As it stands now, we all caution the newbies that they have a few months of time where they are learning their basic skills, in game and in RL, and once they have them down, THEN the real fun comes.
By that point you should have worked up to lvl 3-4 missions, you should be fairly familiar with your region of space, you should know how escrow and so on works, you should know about PvP... and so on.
There are some corps who teach all this but there are MANY who don't, and there are many players who don't join corps for months, if ever.
All of these lay the ground work for an initial 2-4 month period where you are in Frigates to Battlecruisers, earnign piddly amounts of ISK.
Myself, I've played WAY too much in the past 2 months. I'm a stay at home "husband". I do the cooking/cleaning and so on. So I have a LOT of free time to play. But I can't afford stuff like a BS, even though I've got my BC down pat. I can earn money fairly fast, but I KNOW, just just think, but KNOW that I don't have the in game skills yet to fly a BS safely. I mean half my skills are still only lvl 2-3.
Most people though, only play for 2-4 hrs a night, not the 6-16hrs a day I do. So they need more game time to learn to play the game.
That's why it's setup the way it is.. Ohh, and also becuse it'd take time/money to change it :) - -
